Dennis began his career by building and running a laboratory in solid-state physics for Xerox Corporation in New York. Since then he served in the Army as a Hawk missile technician during the Vietnam War; worked in electrical engineering and communication in radio, television, microwave transmission, and mobile radio for Illinois Bell Corporation; was a programmer, systems analyst, and designer in the Data Processing New Development Division for Ameritech Corporation and Ameritech Applied Technologies, and taught computer technology and programming in the Integrated Technology Division Training Department.

Paleontology, geology, and other related sciences have been a passion for Dennis for most of his life. Since 1978 he has worked as a geology and education volunteer and docent at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. Although presently retired, Dennis continues to remain active in science education and research and works as a permanent volunteer in the Fossil Laboratory.

Dennis has degrees in electrical engineering with a double major in Physics and Math, a Liberal Arts degree from DePaul University with a major in Education, and a Masters Degree in Education from National Lewis University. He has also completed many science courses from several universities including Rochester Institute of Technology and Loyola University.
